Overview

“In this talk I will present some strategies to identify suitable target species for urban plant selection for the next 100 years of climate resilience”.
Elisa works with plants that show resilience to extreme conditions, often these are from ‘ecotones’ where one habitat type meets another. She will discuss learning to read climate change maps, and make sense of what different projections mean for future climates? She encourages us to think about novel ecosystems, and invasive – potential of some garden plants in the future.
Elisa Olivares is a lecturer in Planting Design at the School of Architecture and Landscape at the University of Sheffield. Interested in designing climate-resilient plant communities for urban areas, her research has focused on testing under-used plant species that offer drought tolerance and low maintenance. She has worked in Mexico and the UK.
