Planting design is not only about selecting and combining plants, but also about shaping space. In this webinar, Arjan Boekel will explore how plants can be used as spatial elements: to create structure, depth, rhythm, enclosure and openness. Drawing on examples from his own work, he will discuss how the height, density, repetition and layering of vegetation influence the way a garden or landscape is perceived and experienced. He will also consider how these spatial relationships evolve over time, as plants grow, compete and change through the seasons.
