The Wild Garden Triumvirate

In-person event

When Saturday 11 July 2026, 7.30pm – 9.00pm

Location Charleston, Sussex

Overview

We gather together Head Gardener Tom Coward, horticulturist Claire Greenslade and garden historian Sandra Lawrence to discuss how wild garden guru William Robinson, garden designer Gertrude Jekyll and plantswoman Ellen Willmott became known as a wild gardening ‘triumvirate’ in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  Tom, Claire and Sandra will discuss the three friends, their gardens, plant choices and the many ways their paths crossed before, perhaps most importantly, exploring the legacy they left behind.
