Overview

A creative workshop designed to help break away from conventional drawing and the restraints of formal illustration.  Caisson Gardens offer the perfect location to delve into the world of loose lines, creative collage and innovative mark making with artist Pete Monaghan. Over two days we explore a different approach to how to communicate what we see.

Simple exercises will show how to analyse and represent elements of the gardens, with architectural and industrial elements to aid representation of size and scale and perspective.

The magical gardens at Caisson with their industrial heritage may seem daunting to represent, but we’ll throw ourselves open to revising our perception of landscape and consider how contemporary sustainable garden design may influence our work.

Outdoors we will collate reference material in sketchbooks that will serve for ongoing mixed media work. In the studio our painting may be enhanced using collaged maps, cardboard, coffee cups and a plethora of other items both found and recycled; everyday materials that will initiate fresh ideas taking our work off on unsuspected tangents.

The emphasis will be on exploration and garnering new, creative techniques rather than producing finished work.
