Overview

A garden is an act of imagination and an art form in itself. It is no wonder that artists and writers have long used their gardens as another canvas; a place to experiment with colour, form, texture and scale.

In ‘The Creative Gardener: Inspiring People, Remarkable Gardens,Gardens Illustrated’ editor Stephanie Mahon and photographer John Campbell explore the private gardens of artists, writers, designers and makers across Britain and Ireland. From Nigel Slater’s lush London retreat to Sarah Price’s experimental Welsh garden, these are spaces shaped as much by personality and creativity as by plants and place.

In this special event, Stephanie joins garden designer Annie Guilfoyle in conversation with two of the book’s featured gardeners, Nigel Slater and Sarah Price. Together they’ll explore how gardens become creative practices in their own right, how growing can feed other forms of creativity, and what happens when imaginative people get their hands in the soil.
