Charlie Harpur at Knepp Walled Garden

Charlie is the gardener in charge of this breakthrough project, designed by Tom Stuart-Smith and in consultation with James Hitchmough and others from Sheffiled University. Demolition waste provides a low fertility substrate for an incredible range of plants and biodiversity. He talks to us about the design and construction, gives an overview of how he manages it and gives us a peek into the wider aims and impact of the Knepp rewilding – one of the most important and controversial projects in countryside management in Britain for many years.
