Nigel Dunnett

Nigel Dunnett was Professor of Planting Design and Vegetation Technology at the University of Sheffield until his untimely death in April 2026. He was a leading proponent of sustainable, biodiverse landscapes, with many research and development interests over the years which have included ornamental coppice, rain gardens, annual seed mixes for public space and green roofs. Nigel has worked as a planting designer for a number of high profile British public spaces, including the Barbican in London, and Superbloom at the Tower of London. He had an unique ability to analyse the aesthetics of wild vegetation and develop from it a design language. We have kept some of his presentations by kind permission of his widow.
