Matt Biggs’ Desert Island Gardens

Garden Chat Archive

Matt Biggs has been a lifelong gardener, his status confirmed by being a long-standing participant on the panel that defines the traditional British garden establishment, and indeed is one of those defining aspects of our national life – the radio show ‘Gardener’s Question Time’. Today he will give us his Desert Island Gardens. Inspired by another BBC classic, Desert Island Discs, one of the world’s longest running regular radio programmes, DIG asks participants to discuss the five gardens that marked key stages in their career if they were stranded on a desert island. Matt turns things around rather, with as well as the gardens, some images that disrupt our ideas of what gardens are about – all part of his refreshingly broadminded approach to garden making. He also talks about some of the books he has worked on with Phaidon over the last few years.
