From public to private – Claire Greenslade on changing jobs.

Garden Chat Archive

Claire talks about her unconventional journey into horticulture and her career at Hestercombe Gardens, where she was Head Gardener, spending 17 years at one of south-west England’s most intriguing historic gardens. She recently moved into a post where she is working for a private client, same pay but fewer hours, so she has more time for lecturing, and working in community projects involving refugees and therapeutic horticulture. Here she reflects on her career and a number of issues, including the challenges faced by women in horticulture, low wages in the profession, and the importance of inclusive team cultures.
